Seven, Eight and Eleven

Here is block seven finished.

Block eight is being sewed now. 

And I prepped block 11 yesterday.

Hopefully I will prep 12 today and finish sewing 8? We will see.

I was hoping to have a lot less scraps at the end of this project, but now that over 1/2 the blocks are prepped (there are 20 blocks), it isn't looking like many of the fat quarters I am using will be used up. 

The hexigon quilt is all scraps, but I just haven't worked on it recently. Must put that on my list of to do and get some more done on it. Here is the block I am *still* working on.

Block 6 finished and 7 started

Finished up block 6 on Friday night.

I tried the starch/freezer paper prep method on this one. I see why some people would like it, but I still prefer needle turn applique.

Here is block 7 that I prepped for needle turn yesterday and started sewing on last night.

Not my favorite block color wise, but my daughter - in -love picked the fabrics and the quilt will be for her. Shhhh. She doesn't know about my blog as far as I know so it should be safe to post here as I go lol.

Moving along...

Worked on the wall hanging a little, mostly worked on the scarf.

Ran to grocery before the rain hits again. Sounds like we will get a little of the hurricane brewing in the gulf. Hopefully not much rain will come our way since we still having standing water in the backyard.

Off to figure out what I am gonna do for grandson's quilt.

This is what I got done yesterday as we spent the morning at imaging center for hubby's mri and afternoon at brace place getting him fit for a foot brace. We get the mri results Thursday morning - would appreciate prayers, and the brace should be ready in a week.

Slow Stitching Sunday - Baby quilt

So hubby came home a couple of weeks ago and said one of the guys he works with just found out his girlfriend / wife found out she is 7 months pregnant!!

So of course he wanted me to make a quilt for the baby to be. I went shopping to find fabric and instead found this really cute cheater quilt. So today I am slow stitching the binding on and will label, wash, and viola! Baby quilt and I can go back to the regularly scheduled sewing quicker.

Slow Stitching Sunday

Hi, if you have linked here from Kathy's Quilts welcome! (If someone can tell me how to make that show the name of her blog but show her link I would be so appreciative! thanks). Here is what I will be working on today off and on. It is one of the blocks for the Spring Bouquet quilt. This is block number 5 of 9 so I am getting there. The hard part will be deciding on sashing fabric as I have used only stash fabric.

Here are the first two blocks that are appliqued for the Spring Bouquet quilt I am making.

I *think* I have things working again. I hope so. I will post a few pictures every day from the ones I took at the quilt show. Ended up only going one day so I didn't get alot of pictures.

Here are a few.

This is my youngest daughter and I with Ricky and Justin. I always have to get a picture with them lol. Justin is my friend Janeice's brother. She is so gracious to allow us to stay at her home when we come to the show. This was Kaci's first show and I think she had fun.

This was the quilt Ricky entered in the show. He took first prize in his category. I posted a link about it in a previous post.

Ricky Won!!

Ricky Tims entered this quilt in inovative piecing category. He won first place. He is so gracious to allow me to share a picture with all of you. There is a poem quilted into the quilt that he wrote. The poem is on his website www.rickytims.com.

Headed to Houston Tomorrow!!

I am leaving here soon to finish up the errands so I can leave early in the morning. I hope to be on the road by 8:30. That will mostly depend on pregnant daughter coming with me though lol.

I will try and post in the evenings while there. I have an amazing friend who leaves near Houston and she is so gracious to allow me to crash at her house for the show.

I can't wait to see Ricky Tims and Justin Shults. Justin is my friends brother and if you have met them you know they are fun, and so amazing. I always get pictures with them and will post one I am sure.

I will try and take some decent pictures with my phone of quilts and post.  Ricky has won an award for a quilt he entered but as of yesterday he didn't know what award. Can't wait to see his winning quilt.

So if I am absent a few days (I return home sometime Sunday) you will know I am off having a mini vacation.

I am hand quilting in the ditch around the sashing, around the applique pieces and then doing a diagonal grid 3/4 inch apart.

Spring Bouquet Update

I now have all the blocks prepped for this top. I am leaving on October 31st to go to Houston for the Quilt Show. I stay at a dear sweet friend's (Hi Janeice!) house. I bring lots of hand work to do at night, or if just decide to stay home for the day. Two of the blocks are already stitched and in a previous post. These are all glued down ready to hand applique. Makes things VERY portable.

Not My Design Wall, But What I am Working on Today

I am basting the Baltimore Blue quilt so that I can hand quilt without a hoop or frame. Normally, for a small quilt top I will just spray baste, but since this is rather large, I am afraid it may shift some with all the adjusting in my lap. So I started out spray basting to put it on the floor frame, shoulders couldn't handle all the stretching for that, so then I decided I would use the hoop, to large and uncomfortable for the shoulders too, so now I will lap quilt without anything lol. I use the Sharon Schamber method to baste where she uses the two pieces of wood. It works really well for all sizes however I don't use it for baby quilts. They are small enough I usually just spray baste them. Here is a picture of the basting in progress. I am right at half finished with the basting.

Edited: I am not able to replace the lost pictures. sorry but there are newer pictures in a more recent post of the blocks.

Blue Water Soluble Marking Pens

Ever use these? Ever have trouble getting them to go away?

On the applique for Spring Bouquet, my white chalk pencil isn't showing up on some of the fabrics. So I am using the blue pen on those peices. Here is a tip for if it won't wash out.

Mix up 1/4 tsp baking soda and 1/4 cup hot water. Pour over the marked area and it should disappear forever.
